Asante Kotoko and winger Joseph Amoako have reached a mutual agreement to part ways.
The 20-year-old has terminated his contract with Asante Kotoko after nearly a two-year stint with the club, as reported by Sportsworldghana.com last week.
A statement from the club read, “Joseph Amoako has left the club by mutual consent. The Club thanks Joseph for his time with us and wish him the very best for the future.”
The former Helsingborg IF winger had been indefinitely suspended by Asante Kotoko following an altercation with a club supporter on Facebook.
He initially joined Asante Kotoko on a three-year deal from lower-tier team Young Red Bull FC ahead of the 2021/2022 season.
Amoako’s potential to make a significant impact with Asante Kotoko was evident, but his progress was hindered by injuries.
His start at Asante Kotoko was promising, with four assists in the first five matches, but injuries derailed his trajectory.
During the 2021/22 season, he managed only two matches for Asante Kotoko before being loaned out to Swedish side Helsingborgs IF.
Joseph Amoako returned to Ghana in March 2023 after a challenging period abroad, during which he was wrongly convicted of rape in Sweden but later cleared after extensive investigations.
Despite his difficult time in Sweden, Joseph Amoako featured in only ten matches for Helsingborg IF across various competitions.
