Bibiani Goldstars have officially severed ties with head coach Michael Osei, effective immediately, as announced by the club on Wednesday.
The decision comes as a response to the team’s precarious position in the relegation zone of the Ghana Premier League standings after 13 rounds.
The Miners have experienced a challenging stretch, enduring nine consecutive matches without a victory, with their latest setback being a 2-1 home loss to Nsoatreman FC last weekend. This poor run includes three defeats and six draws, placing Goldstars in the 17th position with only 12 points.
The club’s management had initially granted a leave of absence to the former Asante Kotoko player and trainer two weeks ago. Osei, who has been at the helm of Goldstars since their promotion to the Ghanaian top-flight in the 2021-22 season, has now been relieved of his duties.
In their debut season, Goldstars achieved a respectable 9th-place finish. The subsequent season saw Osei guide the team to an even more commendable 5th place, accumulating 49 points across 34 matches.
Entering the current campaign, Goldstars had set the ambitious target of finishing within the top four positions. Despite reinforcing their squad with experienced players, the team’s performances have fallen short of expectations, prompting the management to reassess the situation and part ways with Osei for the remainder of the season.
