CAF has decided on how teams will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be played in the USA-Canada-Mexico.
The qualifiers are already underway in Africa with 2 rounds of games played.
The teams have been grouped into 9 with each containing 6 teams except Group E which contains 5 teams. All the teams in each group will play each other on a home and away basis. The winners of each group will qualify automatically for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 4 best runner-up teams will compete for one slot and the winner will enter the
intercontinental play-off for the last slot.
After matchday 2 of the African qualifiers, Egypt, Senegal, Rwanda, Cameroon, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Algeria, Tunisia, and Comoros are the leaders of group A to l respectively.
Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Burkina Faso and Sudan are the 4 best second-placed teams.
Africa World Cup qualifiers resume in June 2024.
