Kylian Mbappe, the 25-year-old France forward, has signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid as a free agent, ending a protracted transfer saga.
Real Madrid announced the signing on Monday, fresh off their 15th European Cup victory.
Mbappe, who expressed his excitement on social media, will move to Madrid in July after his Paris St-Germain (PSG) contract expires on June 30.
He leaves PSG after seven years, having won six Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups, and becoming the club’s all-time top scorer with 256 goals. Despite his domestic success, the Champions League has eluded him.
Real Madrid had previously failed to secure Mbappe, who opted to extend his PSG contract in 2022. His move now bolsters a star-studded Madrid squad featuring Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, and coach Carlo Ancelotti.
PSG’s inability to extend Mbappe’s contract means they won’t recoup any part of the €180 million transfer fee they paid in 2017.
