Aston Villa has completed the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Brazilian has been at Villa Park on a loan deal since January when he returned to the Premier League four years after his £142million transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard who played with Coutinho is said to be a key factor behind the player’s decision to commit his future to the club where he has impressed in his short stint.

The midfielder made seven-goal contributions in his first eight games for the club and has also been called upon to represent the Selecao for the upcoming international games against South Korea and Japan, both of which will be played in early June.

The deal will bring in Barça around 20 million euros, while they will maintain a percentage of any future sale, too with the club having been keen to scrap the player off their wage bill.
