Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed how overwhelmed he felt when Ghana faced Brazil in the Round of 16 of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
The Black Stars came up against a star-studded Brazilian side featuring some of football’s biggest names, including Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos.
Despite Ghana’s impressive debut tournament, the South Americans proved too strong, securing a 3-0 victory through goals from Ronaldo, Adriano and Ze Roberto.Reflecting on the occasion during an interview alongside Kwadwo Asamoah and renowned sports journalist Eva Okyere, Gyan admitted that seeing the Brazilian legends up close left him in awe.
“I was star-struck when I saw them when we were preparing to come to the tunnel. Oh my God,” Gyan recalled
The former Sunderland striker was one of the youngest members of Ghana’s historic squad that became the first Black Stars team to reach the knockout stage of a FIFA World Cup
