The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ruled that Tema Youth owner, Wilfried Osei Kwaku Palmer, must pay the Ghana Football Association (GFA) an amount of 150,000 Euros as a result of the transfer of winger Joseph Paintsil to KRC Genk.
Joseph Paintsil, a winger for the Black Stars, made the move to the Belgian club from the former Premier League side in 2018. However, disputes arose regarding the payment of a percentage of the transfer fee to the association.
The matter was escalated to the highest football tribunal, which ultimately ruled against Mr. Osei Palmer.
CAS issued a statement on September 22, 2023, confirming the decision: “The decision issued on 11 June by the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association, insofar as it concerns the interest of the Ghana Football Association, including the payment obligation concerning the amount of 150,000 Euros to be paid to the Ghana Football Association, is confirmed.”
Additionally, Tema Youth will bear the full expenses associated with the arbitration, which will be paid to the Ghana Football Association.
