Otto Addo aims to restore Black Stars’ confidence in World Cup Qualifiers

Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, is hopeful that Ghana’s senior national team will regain their confidence as they prepare for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

The four-time African champions will face Chad and Madagascar in Matchday five and six of the qualifiers—marking their first competitive fixtures this year after missing out on a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana endured a difficult run in 2024, managing just two wins in ten matches. With the team set to return to action, Addo sees these upcoming games as a pivotal opportunity to shift the team’s mindset and bring back optimism.

“For me, it’s not about qualifiers, World Cup, or AFCON qualifiers. Each and every game is important. Surely, I think it’s difficult sometimes to compare circumstances, especially if you have friendly matches or matches where you have a lot of injuries,” Addo told TV3.

“I know the statistics count, but for me, it doesn’t count too much. Each and every game is important. We always try to do our best. I’m looking forward to this match.

“I’m really, really looking forward to this match to also bring back a little bit of positivity and also confidence to the players. I hope Chad is coming in at the right time and prepare the boys,” he added.

The Black Stars will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco to face Madagascar three days later.

Ghana currently sits at the top of their World Cup qualifying group, level on nine points with Comoros, as they aim to secure a place in the tournament.
