Black Stars interim boss Otto Addo will become the first ever Ghanaian to play and coach at the FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar later this year.
He is expected to be in charge of Ghana when they take on Group H opponents, Portugal, Uruguay and Korea in this year’s FIFA Mundial.
Otto Addo was a member of the Black Stars team that first played at the global showpiece in Germany 2006, making two appearances as Ghana reached the last 16.
“I got permission from Dortmund. Under certain conditions, it works out that I can do the international game phases in June, September and also the World Cup,” Addo said in a podcast of Hamburger Abendblatt.
The GFA is set to hand the ex-Dortmund player a deal that will see him lead the Black Stars in the FACON 2023 qualifiers as well as the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He will also be in charge of the team if Ghana qualifies for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
