Black Stars head coach Otto Addo says he is confident Ghana will put up a stronger performance when they host Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers today, September 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana was held to a 1-1 draw by Chad in N’Djamena last Thursday, a result that left many fans disappointed. Addo admitted the team did not meet expectations but believes the players have learned from their mistakes.
“Everybody was very disappointed after the draw in Chad. The expectation was high for us to win. We were disappointed, we analysed the game very well and hoped that we would learn out of this,” Addo said.
He added that playing at home will give the Black Stars an extra push.
“I’m very sure we will show another phase in Accra; it’s easier to play at home with our spectators supporting us, pushing the last percentages out of the body of the players. I expect different phases of the players.”
The Black Stars are currently on top of Group I, but with Comoros beating the Central African Republic, the gap has been reduced. Ghana must therefore secure victory against Mali to extend their lead.
Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
