Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has provided insight into the selection process behind his new technical team members, addressing criticism surrounding their lack of experience.
The 43-year-old, who recently signed a 34-month deal, appointed former Black Stars players John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda, along with Moroccan-German coach Joseph Laumann, to his new technical staff.
Despite facing scrutiny from the media for their perceived lack of experience, Addo emphasized the positive attributes each member brings to the team.
“First of all, I knew all of them before the job. I played with John Paintsil together. For Fatawu Dauda, I met him in 2014 at the World Cup, and it was nice to get together to share ideas and also to fit,” he explained in an interview with the Ghana FA website.
“Joe (Joseph Laumann), I know him from Germany, and he is absolutely an expert. He has really good eyes for a situation, to react fast but is also very attentive to any kind of thing which is destructive and at the same time attentive to things which can help to develop the group and the team. It’s a very important input from all of them.”
Addo highlighted the valuable contributions his assistants have made in improving the team dynamics and expressed confidence in their capabilities.
“They have given me very, very important inputs, and it’s really, really good to have them. I can feel after the first four days that they have helped me to improve, and this is what we want to have,” he added.
Joseph Laumann assumes the role of the first assistant coach, followed by John Paintsil, while Fatawu Dauda serves as the goalkeeper trainer.
The Black Stars are currently preparing for their upcoming friendly against Uganda at the Stade de Marrakesh, scheduled for later today with kickoff set for 16:00GMT.
