General Manager of the Black Stars, Ameenu Shardow, has praised head coach Otto Addo’s openness about his past mistakes and his tireless commitment to the team, expressing confidence that these traits will eventually reflect in Ghana’s performances on the pitch.
Despite enduring a difficult period marked by a six-game winless run and Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Addo has maintained a humble approach, something Shardow believes is a sign of strong leadership.
“I’m absolutely convinced Otto is the right person. He got a lot of things wrong. He is the first to admit that,” Shardow said in an interview aired on Asempa FM.
“If you put a camera before him, he will willingly tell you he got a lot of things wrong. But the way he coaches, the way he applies himself, the way he’s always willing to learn — he never sleeps. Hard worker. You could tell clearly that this is somebody who is destined for the top.”
Though calls for Addo’s dismissal grew louder during the team’s rough patch, the Ghana Football Association stood by him and instead bolstered the technical bench to support his efforts.
Their faith was rewarded in March when the Black Stars bounced back in style, recording emphatic wins against Chad and Madagascar—5-0 and 3-0 respectively—in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana now lead Group I with a three-point cushion over Comoros, with four games left to play. For Shardow, these results are a sign that Addo’s persistence and honesty are beginning to bear fruit.
