Ernest Nuamah, the Ghana U23 forward, has released a statement apologizing to Ghanaians for the disappointing performance of the Black Meteors at the 2023 CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Nuamah, who plays for FC Nordsjaelland, acknowledged that the team’s performance fell below expectations. He expressed his belief that Ghanaians and the country as a whole deserved better than what the Black Meteors displayed in Morocco.
Taking responsibility for his own performance, Nuamah admitted that he could have done better to contribute to the team’s success. He emphasized that if given another opportunity, the group should strive to deliver a better performance for the nation.
Reflecting on the tournament, Nuamah acknowledged making some wrong decisions but expressed gratitude for the chance to represent Ghana.
“No excuses but our performances as a group was below expectations but personally I could do better to help the team. As a group if we ever have the opportunity again Ghana deserves better,” Ernest Nuamah shared.
“I made some wrong decisions but I am grateful for this opportunity.”
During the U23 AFCON, Ghana managed to win one game in Group A, suffered a loss in another, and ended one match in a draw. Unfortunately, these results were not sufficient to advance the Black Meteors to the knockout stage.
