Oxford United’s manager, DES Buckingham, has tempered expectations regarding the club’s pursuit of free agents in the near term, quashing speculations about a return for former winger Tariqe Fosu.
Despite recently securing left-back Joe Bennett to address the defensive gaps, Buckingham hinted that the club is unlikely to delve further into the free-agent market immediately. Fans have expressed interest in bringing back Fosu
Buckingham emphasized the upcoming recruitment meeting and suggested that any additional signings are more probable during the January transfer window.
The decision to bring in Joe Bennett was prompted by the team’s shortage of full-backs, with injuries affecting the squad.
“We’ve got a recruitment meeting next week, where we’ll look at what we can do, but it’ll likely be January and nothing before that,” said Buckingham.
“Joe came in because we had a severe lack of full backs, with Greg pulling up before the Cheltenham game.
“We’ve got a meeting next week and we’ll assess what we want, and what we can do, but it’s more likely looking to be the January window rather than before.”
Fosu left Brentford in the summer, after making 63 appearances for the Bees, 39 in helping them to the Premier League.
He played 33 times for United, scoring 10 goals, in a six-month spell with the club, prior to joining Brentford.
