Wayne Rooney, the iconic figure of Manchester United, weighed in on Thomas Partey’s controversial challenge during Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over his former club.
Rooney expressed that while he didn’t view the incident as a penalty, Partey was fortunate to evade punishment after Amad Diallo went down in the box.
“I don’t think this is a penalty, [but] Partey is very lucky,” Rooney, who won five Premier League titles with Manchester United told Sky Sports.
“He goes off his feet early and he fortunately just gets a nick on the ball. For me, it’s not a penalty but Partey is very lucky,” he added.
Despite the debate, Partey’s influence on Arsenal’s bid to end their Premier League title drought remains pivotal.
As Arsenal gears up for their final league fixture against Everton, the Ghanaian midfielder’s return from injury adds further depth to their squad.
Moreover, with looming World Cup qualifiers, Partey’s presence in the Black Stars set-up promises to bolster Ghana’s midfield against Mali and the Central African Republic.
