Following a decision by the deputy Black Stars captain Andre Dede to fund air tickets of some Black Stars players to Accra ahead of the 2017 AFCON qualifier against Rwanda on September 3, the Sports minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye has stated the captain should also pay the winning bonus of the team.
Prior to this development, the Sports minister had indicated the ministry had run out of money hence suggested Ghana should assemble a local side to face Rwanda to swerve any unnecessary expenditure.
But the Former Swansea star offered to pay for the airfares of his colleagues a move that seems to have angered the minister who wants him to also offer to pay for their winning bonuses
“This is called sacrifice, for a player to pay his air ticketing to Ghana to play a match, they will also pay for their own winning bonus if they win. And we will be even happy if they (players) give us money to support the Maidens”.Hon. Nii Lamptey Vanderpuije told Kumasi-based Otec FM.

Meanwhile, the head coach of the Black Stars, Avram Grant has invited a 23 man squad which consist of 95% foreign based players.
It’s line with the above why the former Swansea player had stepped in to sponsor airfare of some of these foreign based players but the Sports minister reckons he can do more than just paying for air tickets.
