Former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has raised concerns about Otto Addo’s hesitance to primarily build the Black Stars with local talent.
His remarks come in the wake of Ghana’s surprising 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
During a recent meeting at the Ghanaman Soccer of Excellence in Prampram, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe advised Addo to concentrate on developing the senior national team around homegrown players. However, the 45-year-old coach expressed apprehension about facing ridicule if this strategy did not yield positive results.
“I met Otto Addo at the Ghanaman Soccer of Excellence at Prampram and encouraged him to build the Black Stars around local players because those playing in Europe are not necessarily the best. They often play cautiously,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe shared during an interview with Asempa FM. “The coach responded that people would laugh at him if he tried local players and it didn’t work out.”
In light of the recent defeat, concerns have been raised about the players’ commitment and performance. Currently, the Black Stars are positioned third in Group F, having garnered only two points from four matches.
The team will regroup to face Niger and Angola in November for their final group fixtures, where they will aim to secure their place in the tournament.
