Dundee United midfielder Emmanuel Agyei has praised former Dreams FC coach Karim Zito, describing his time under the experienced trainer as the most influential period of his football career.
Agyei joined Dreams FC in October 2021 and made his competitive debut a month later, coming off the bench in a 3–1 away victory over Elmina Sharks on November 7, 2021. From that moment, he steadily grew into a key member of the squad.
The 21-year-old played a vital role in Dreams FC’s historic journey to the semi-finals of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup, a remarkable campaign that saw him earn recognition with a place in the competition’s Team of the Week.
Naturally comfortable as a defensive midfielder or centre-back, Agyei revealed that his ability to play in multiple positions was developed during his time under Zito, who constantly challenged him to adapt and improve.
“Playing in every position under Coach Karim Zito at Dreams FC shaped my career, and I am truly thankful for the experience,” he told Asempa FM.
After leaving Dreams FC in 2024, Agyei moved to Israeli Premier League side Ashdod, where he made 27 appearances across two seasons before earning a transfer to Scotland.
Now at Dundee United, the Ghanaian youngster has quickly settled into life in the Scottish Premiership, establishing himself as a regular starter. He has featured in eight matches so far, starting seven, as he continues to build on the strong foundation laid during his time at Dreams FC.
