Ghana left-back, Gideon Mensah flopped as listless Black Stars succumbed to a flying desert Foxes of Algeria in an international friendly ahead of AFCON on Wednesday evening in Doha, Qatar.
The Bordeaux man was involved in all three goals conceded on the day against the African Champions as the Stars loss 3-0.
As early as the eighth minute mark, Mensah was easily dribbled by Napoli star Adam Ounas to score the opening goal to break the deadlock of the match to put the Green and Whites ahead.
During the game, Mensah’s passes were not accurate enough and had misundersting with winger Samuel Owusu who was operating on the left wing in the first half.
After the break, the Ghanaian youngster’s side of defense was constantly used by the Algerians in their attacks and the former West African Football Academy (WAFA) SC graduate failed to deal with the threat all day.
With quarter of an hour to play, Mensah’s side of defense was breached easily before Jonathan Mensah scored an own goal to give the Algerians a 2-0 lead when Ghana were the better side controlling the game.
Four minutes later, the Algerians invaded his area of defense again and he failed to stop the cross which was poorly attacked by poor goalkeeping from Lawrence Ati-Zigi which led to a third goal scored by Islam Slimani.
The youngster was one of the bad performers on the day and could be dropped on Monday when Ghana takes on Morocco in the first AFCON game in five days time.
