Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to build six state-of-the-art sports stadiums in Ghana’s newest regions, expanding access to quality facilities nationwide.
During a stop on his “Thank You Tour” in the Western North Region, Mr Mahama told chiefs and residents that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation is already drawing up plans and designs for the projects.
“Modern stadiums will go up in all six of the newly created regions, and in other areas that still lack proper sports grounds,” he said.
According to him, the initiative will spread sporting opportunities fairly across the country, help develop young athletes and uncover fresh talent.
The six regions—Western North, Oti, North East, Bono East, Savannah and Ahafo—were carved out in 2019, increasing Ghana’s total regions from ten to sixteen. Each planned stadium will double as a community hub and a venue for national events, stimulating local businesses while lifting the standard of Ghanaian sport.
