Heart of Lions President and GFA Executive Committee Member, Dr. Randy Abbey, emphasizes that the primary focus for the Black Stars should be qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Abbey insists that nothing else should take precedence over securing a spot in the tournament held in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
Following Inaki Williams’ last-minute goal against Madagascar, Chris Hughton’s team secured three points to kick off their world qualification series with a 1-0 victory in the 95th minute. This win has given the Black Stars momentum as they head into their second Group I matchup against Comoros.
Speaking after the game in Kumasi, Abbey told Citi Sports: “If we say we are big boys, we need to do what big boys do, and so we have no chance than to top the group and go to the World Cup. I mean what else can be the priority; qualification to the World Cup must be your number one priority.”
The team has landed in Moroni, preparing for the clash with Comoros scheduled for Tuesday at 4 pm at the Stade de Moroni. Chris Hughton aims to secure a victory in this game, alleviating pressure on himself and the team and creating a relaxed atmosphere for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
