Former Black Stars midfielder Rabiu Mohammed has expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the team’s recent struggles. Speaking in an interview with Akoma 87.9 FM, Rabiu emphasized that while the team possesses immense talent, their biggest challenge is a lack of self-belief.
“This Black Stars team has lost trust in itself. They possess the talent and skills required at this level, but they lack belief. I know they are capable of performing better,” Rabiu stated.
Ghana’s national team has faced criticism in recent months due to inconsistent performances in international competitions. However, Rabiu believes that with the right mindset and determination, the Black Stars can regain their winning form.
“I hope their confidence returns soon, allowing them to secure victories. When the game starts, no matter how tough it gets, they should fight, run, and pass the ball. Their confidence will grow, enabling them to give their best for Ghana,” he added.
The former defensive midfielder also highlighted that Ghana’s squad is more talented than some of their opponents, including Comoros, who recently defeated the Black Stars in the World Cup qualifiers.
“Looking at the players we have now, they are talented. You can’t compare Comoros’ squad to Ghana’s. What the Black Stars need is self-belief and determination to fight for Ghana.”
With crucial qualification matches ahead, Ghanaian fans will be hoping the Black Stars can rediscover their confidence and fighting spirit to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
