Early Life and Family Background

Razak Omotoyossi was born in Lagos, Nigeria, where he grew up playing street football before joining local youth academies. From a young age, his talent as a goal scorer stood out, and he quickly became known for his pace, strength, and eye for goal.

Though born in Nigeria, his professional journey eventually led him to adopt Benin Republic as his international football home, a decision that would shape his legacy as one of the country’s greatest players.

He hailed from a humble family background, where football was not only a passion but also a pathway to a better life.


Club Career

Early Career

  • Omotoyossi began his professional journey in the Nigerian domestic league, playing for Delta Force FC and AS Racines. His powerful displays caught the attentiof scouts beyond Nigeria.

Sirius (Sweden) – 2005–2006

  • He made the move to Europe with IK Sirius in Sweden. His impact was immediate, showcasing his scoring ability and adaptability.

Helsingborgs IF (Sweden) – 2006–2007

  • Omotoyossi’s breakthrough came at Helsingborgs IF, where he partnered with Swedish legend Henrik Larsson.
  • He became a fan favorite, scoring crucial goals in the UEFA Cup (now Europa League), including against top sides.
  • His goal-scoring exploits in Sweden made him one of Africa’s most talked-about strikers at the time.

Al-Nassr (Saudi Arabia) – 2007–2008

  • His performances earned him a lucrative move to the Middle East, joining Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

FC Metz (France) – 2008–2009

  • Omotoyossi later signed for FC Metz in France’s Ligue 1. Though his spell there was short, he gained valuable experience in one of Europe’s top leagues.
