Reading FC is currently engaged in contract extension discussions with Ghanaian defender Kelvin Ampomah Opoku Abrefa. The Royals have confirmed negotiations for a new contract offer aimed at prolonging his tenure with the club.
The 20-year-old right-back has been a fixture in and around the first team for two years, accumulating 13 league appearances. However, his first start at Oakwell didn’t come until April 20, 2024. Additionally, Abrefa has represented the Under-21 side on eight occasions.
As an English-born Ghanaian defender, Abrefa made his debut for the Royals’ first team at the age of 18. He has since demonstrated his potential, earning valuable experience and contributing to the team’s defensive lineup.
Reading FC, competing in the Championship, is eager to secure Abrefa’s services with a long-term contract, recognizing his talent and potential for growth.
Having progressed from the Reading U18s to the U23s, Abrefa has primarily operated in his preferred full-back position in the Premier League 2. His development has been nurtured through training alongside experienced players like right-back Andy Yiadom and fellow academy graduate Tyrell Ashcroft.
