Real Madrid is actively seeking a replacement for their starting right-back, Dani Carvajal, who is set to miss a significant period due to a torn cruciate ligament.
As reported by Bild, Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen has emerged as a top contender for the Spanish giants.
Frimpong, who is contracted with Leverkusen until 2028, was previously on Madrid’s radar last spring and summer. However, the club opted not to activate his 40 million euro release clause at that time. With Carvajal’s injury, Real Madrid is now keen on acquiring a quality right-back in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Leverkusen is in a strong position regarding any potential transfer this winter, as the release clause is currently not in effect. Negotiations are anticipated, allowing for a flexible transfer fee until the summer of 2025, when the 40 million euro buyout clause will be reinstated.
Given the recent developments, Real Madrid’s interest in Frimpong is likely to intensify in the months ahead as they look to bolster their defense.
