Former AshantiGold SC coach, Thomas Duah, revealed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) blocked a $200,000 deal for the club.
AshantiGold was implicated in match-fixing against Inter Allies during the 2020/21 season, resulting in demotion for both teams.
“The decision to demote Ashgold and Inter Allies was worrying,” he said in an interview with Asempa FM.
“The players were left to suffer without any reason and in the case of Ashgold, the club lost $200,000 from the Yaw Annor sale because this wicked Ghana Football Association (GFA) informed Ismaily SC that Ashgold does not exist anymore, meanwhile, Yaw Annor had joined the already.
“It was a bad decision by the Ghana Football Association and it hurts me such decision was taken,” he added.
Despite this, top goal scorer Yaw Annor joined Egypt’s Ismaily SC for $200,000. GFA told Ismaily that AshantiGold no longer existed, demanding the money back. Duah criticized the GFA’s decision, expressing concern for the players who suffered.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport cleared the players, instructing GFA to pay over 3000 Swiss Francs. Annor scored 22 goals that season, equalling a record.
