AZ Alkmaar have handed a major birthday gift to Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro by extending his contract until 2030 — a deal announced on the very day the talented goalkeeper turned 21.
Born to Ghanaian parents in the Netherlands, Owusu-Oduro has been a standout figure in AZ’s setup, having joined the club at the age of 10. Over the years, he has risen through the ranks and now stands as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Dutch football.
Owusu-Oduro enjoyed a remarkable 2023/24 season, featuring in 46 matches across all competitions. His highlight moment came in the KNVB Beker semi-final, where he emerged as a penalty shootout hero to help AZ secure a place in the final.
A UEFA Youth League winner in 2023, the Dutch-Ghanaian shot-stopper has also become a key figure for the Netherlands U21 team (Jong Oranje), earning praise for his reflexes, composure, and leadership at the back.
AZ’s decision to secure Owusu-Oduro’s future underscores their belief in his potential to become a first-team mainstay and possibly a future international star.
