As of 8 am on Saturday, Real Tamale United had not set off to Kpando to honour the Week 20 of the Ghana Premier League fixture. It is bad news for the Tamale-based club and Ghana football as RTU is in a financial mess.
On Oyerepa Sports on Saturday morning, RTUs P. R.O Rafique revealed all that has beset the Tamale club in an interview with Sir Obed.
“We couldn’t afford ¢2,300 to fix our bus,” said Rafique. RTU’s bus is broken and the mechanic has charged just ¢2,300 for it to be repaired but the team has not been able to raise money for it to be fixed.
“Shillas Alhassan, team manager has resigned due to the poor financial state of the club.
“The team keep sinking and sinking and RTU is on the verge of collapse” revealed Rafique. The rate RTU is sinking, it will never be surprising if the team forfeit the rest of the Ghana Premier League campaign.
“RTU is in the Intensive Care Unit. Players have not been paid for 5 months, coach has not been paid for almost 1 year,” added the PRO.
Rafique disclosed that even the players have softened their stands and are willing to honour the fixture against Kpando Heart of Lions but there’s no money to repair and fuel the bus to travel to Kpando.
He added that they need something little for the boys to eat, then they will honour the game because they can’t afford to forfeit it.
Real Tamale United is positioned at the bottom of the league table with 18 points from 19 games.
