Rwandan referee Samuel Uwikunda has been chosen to officiate the opening qualifying match for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations between Ghana and Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Uwikunda, a veteran in African football, has a notable history of officiating in significant competitions such as the CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup, the Championship of African Nations (CHAN), and previous Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. His extensive experience makes him well-suited for this high-profile game.
He will be supported by fellow Rwandans Dieudonne Mutuyimana as Assistant Referee I, Eric Mugabo as Assistant Referee II, and Ruzindana Nsoro as the Fourth Official. The team will work together to ensure fair play and smooth proceedings.
Additionally, Sanusi Mohammed from Nigeria will act as the Match Commissioner, overseeing the logistics and administration of the game, while Elsayed Morad Attaalla from Egypt will serve as the Referee Assessor, evaluating the performance of the officials.
