Sadio Mané has announced his retirement from international football, bringing the curtain down on an outstanding career with Senegal’s national team after more than a decade of service.
The 34 year old called time on his international career following Senegal’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Round of 32 stage, ending one of the most successful chapters in the history of the Lions of Teranga.
In an emotional farewell message, the former Senegal captain thanked supporters for standing by him throughout his journey.
“Know that I have sacrificed everything for this flag. I have given my very best and always fought fiercely for our nation. Your continuous support has been the driving force behind my success,” Mané said.
He also hinted at a future role in Senegalese football, expressing his desire to continue serving his country beyond his playing days.

“Tomorrow, it will be my pleasure to put my experience at the service of the nation, whether that be within a technical staff, on the substitutes’ bench as a coach, or in administrative bodies.”
Mané leaves the international stage as one of Africa’s greatest footballers. He scored 54 goals and provided 29 assists for Senegal, helping the West African nation win its maiden Africa Cup of Nations title in 2022.
He also finished as an AFCON runner-up twice and was named the tournament’s Best Player on two occasions.
Beyond his exploits with the national team, Mané was crowned African Footballer of the Year twice, cementing his status as one of the continent’s finest players.
