Dr. Richard Duah Nsenkyire, President of FC Samartex 1996, has emphasized that the success of Ghanaian football should not be judged solely by the number of trophies won by the Black Stars.
The Black Stars, Ghana’s men’s senior national team, have not claimed an Africa Cup of Nations title in 42 years. The Ghana Football Association, led by Kurt Okraku, has faced criticism from the public for the team’s poor performances. However, Nsenkyire believes that all football stakeholders share responsibility for the state of Ghanaian football.
“We can’t reduce the success of Ghana football to just trophies we win,” he told Asempa FM. “The Black Stars haven’t won a trophy for some time now, but everything is a cycle. Football is for all of us. I don’t want to say the FA is different from us. We are part of the FA.”
Under Dr. Nsenkyire’s leadership, FC Samartex 1996 secured the Ghana Premier League title in only their second season. The Samreboi-based club clinched the championship with two games to spare after defeating Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
