FC Samartex 1996 produced a memorable performance to hand Medeama SC their first defeat of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season after a dramatic 2-1 victory at the Nsenkyire Arena on Sunday.
The hosts secured all three points in thrilling fashion, with Christian Agyenim scoring deep into stoppage time to complete a comeback win and move Samartex level on points with the defending champions.
After a cagey first half that ended without goals, Samartex broke the deadlock nine minutes after the restart through Joshuah Fuseini, whose strike sent the home supporters into celebration.
Medeama responded strongly and continued pushing for an equaliser, eventually finding a breakthrough in the 79th minute when Dominic Amponsah converted to bring the visitors back into the contest.
Just when the match appeared destined to end in a draw, Samartex delivered the decisive moment. Agyenim struck three minutes into added time to secure a dramatic victory and spark huge celebrations at the Nsenkyire Arena.
The result brings an end to Medeama’s unbeaten start to the campaign, but the Tarkwa-based side remain top of the league table with 14 points from seven matches, holding onto first place through a superior goal difference.
However, their lead has been significantly reduced, with Hearts of Oak and FC Samartex also sitting on 14 points after the same number of games.
Samartex’s victory strengthens their credentials as early contenders for the league title, while Hearts of Oak continue to remain firmly in contention as the race at the top of the Ghana Premier League intensifies.
