Saudi Pro League club Al-Taawoun has successfully secured the signing of Musa Barrow, the Gambian international, from Bologna.
The 24-year-old midfielder has been a subject of interest from multiple clubs this year, including Italian champions Napoli. Besiktas was also in advanced talks to sign him.
Despite Besiktas being on the verge of completing the deal, Al-Taawoun entered the race and ultimately secured his signing. This transfer reportedly cost Al-Taawoun €8 million, making Barrow the club’s most expensive signing ever, surpassing the €4 million spent on Andrei Girotto earlier in the summer.
Musa Barrow began his career with Gambian side Hawks FC before making his move to Europe via Atalanta in 2017. In 2020, he signed with Bologna. Initially, Barrow spent two seasons on loan at Bologna before the deal was made permanent in July 2021 for nearly €15 million.
Throughout his time in Italy, Barrow amassed 163 appearances in Serie A, contributing with 30 goals and 31 assists. He also featured for Atalanta in their 2019 Champions League campaign.
