One of the most difficult techniques in scoring in football is from free kick. When it is from 19 yards to whatever yards, it is very difficult to score.
Few players have mastered it and even the masters of free kick find it difficult always to execute it.
Bernard Don Bortey and Stephen Oduro among a few others used to score free kicks with ease in the Ghana Premier League.
In the Ghana Premier League, one player who has developed a knack for scoring free kicks is Appiah McCarthy, the Bibiani Gold Stars midfielder. He has shown on many occasions that he is indeed blessed with the free kick execution.
Speaking to Nhyira FM on Nhyira Sports, the midfielder revealed that he has been doing it even from his colt football days.
“Scoring from a free kick is one of my sharpest weapons since my Colts days. I trained more about it by learning a lot from players with free kick technique in Europe like Kevin De Bruyne so that I can always be better,” said McCarthy.
27-year-old Appiah McCarthy, 27, who spent six seasons with Ashanti Gold has been the best free-kick taker in the Ghana Premier League for a while. He disclosed that he watches a lot of free kicks from Manchester City’s bonafide attacking midfielder Kelvin De Bryune to perfect his techniques.
Appiah McCarthy has scored four goals via free-kicks for Gold Stars. The midfielder holds the record for most free-kick goals after matchday 19 this season.
He scored another exquisite free-kick against Berekum Chelsea yesterday in a ceremonial game for Bibiani Gold Stars.
