Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has urged Black Stars coach Otto Addo to extend his scouting efforts across the Ghana Premier League to unearth more local talent.
His call comes in the wake of Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare’s impressive performances in Ghana’s recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who received his first national team call-up, was chosen ahead of Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott. He justified his selection with solid displays, keeping clean sheets in both matches.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe emphasized the significant role home-based players have played in Ghana’s past Africa Cup of Nations successes. He, therefore, encouraged the GFA to support Otto Addo in scouting players from across the country.
“If the coach limits his visits only to Accra and Kumasi stadia, he might not spot the required talents,” he remarked.
“He [Otto Addo] must spread his tentacles by visiting every nook and cranny of the country to identify promising players,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe advised.
Asare’s outstanding performances have now bolstered his chances of becoming Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper in upcoming matches.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars will shift focus to their next round of World Cup qualifiers in June, where they are set to face Chad away before hosting Mali in Matchday 7 and 8 of the campaign.
