Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru expressed his excitement at seeing Abdul Samed Salis and Kudus Mohammed perform at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Despite Ghana’s early elimination from the tournament, Salis and Kudus received praise from Ghanaian football fans for their impressive performances.
Kudus, in particular, stood out by scoring two goals against South Korea in the group stage.
Ashimeru, who was not included in the final squad, commended the duo and expressed his happiness in witnessing their participation.
“Seeing Samed Salis at the World Cup makes me happy because he is someone I always talk to every day and with Kudus (Mohammed), he is like a younger brother to me because we grew up in the same hood and me seeing them at the World Cup makes me happy,” he told 3Sports.
Ashimeru also admitted his disappointment at not being selected for the World Cup squad but emphasized the importance of supporting his teammates.
“The World Cup is the biggest football tournament in the world and every player wants to play the World Cup,” he said.
“Personally, I felt bad for not playing at the World Cup but I also felt these are my guys and they need my support,” he added.
Ghana’s campaign ended at the group stage with only three points, having won a match against South Korea but suffered defeats against Portugal and Uruguay.
