Heart of Lions striker Abednego Tetteh has attributed the frequent clashes among Ghana Premier League players to poor salaries and difficult working conditions, stating that many players go into matches angry and frustrated due to financial struggles.
Speaking on Wednesday, February 26, Tetteh shared his thoughts on the violent altercation that occurred during the Week 19 Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko.
The veteran striker expressed sympathy for the players involved in the clash, insisting that low wages and tough conditions make it difficult for players to remain calm during games.
“Players go through a lot of difficulties. They are not paid well, so some come onto the pitch angry because they are hungry. That’s why I don’t blame the players too much for what happened at Nsoatre,” Tetteh said in an interview with Lawson TV.
The Week 19 fixture was marred by player clashes, but an even more tragic incident occurred off the pitch. Francis Frimpong, a staunch Asante Kotoko supporter, was stabbed to death, leading to the suspension of the Ghana Premier League as security concerns grew.
However, in a recent update, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the league will resume on March 7, with matchday 23 set to continue as planned.
