Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to revitalizing sports in Ghana and restoring its once-glorious status.
Ghanaian football, particularly the Black Stars — four-time African champions — has seen a notable decline in recent years. The national team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) marked their first absence from the tournament in two decades, highlighting the need for urgent reform.
Speaking to the media after a meeting with Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele on Friday, Kofi Adams described the visit as a major endorsement of the ministry’s renewed efforts to uplift Ghanaian football.
“If there is ever a footballer so great that Ghana can talk about, then there’s no other person but the one we all describe as the maestro,” he said, praising the legendary figure.
“We are blessed as a ministry to have him call on us. It tells you that we are trying our best to reach out to everybody, and he has positively responded,” Adams added, reflecting on the significance of Abedi Pele’s support.
The minister expressed confidence in the positive outcomes that will result from such collaborations.
“Like the previous ones, we saw the results, and I know everything and anything you are involved in, results will come,” he stated.
He concluded with a renewed promise: “We will work to make our football great and our sports great again.”
