Former Ghanaian international Charles Asampong Taylor has advised young left-back David Oduro to seize his opportunity at Barcelona by striving for a place in the first team and refraining from spending time on social media.
Oduro recently signed a three-year contract with Barca Atletic, the reserve team of the renowned Catalan club, during the summer transfer window. Although he has trained with both the first team and the youth squad, he has yet to make his competitive debut for the club.
The former Accra Lions defender was recently seen enjoying a lighthearted moment on TikTok with ex-teammate Evans Botchway, where he shared insights about his training experiences at Barcelona.
In light of this, Taylor, who had a successful career in the Ghana Premier League with Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, urged Oduro to prioritize his development in Spain.
“You shouldn’t have the mentality that you are playing for Barcelona B and that’s it. The Barcelona B team is even more difficult. It’s challenging because they rely on the B team for quality players for the first team,” he stated during an appearance on Angel TV.
“We are all thrilled that he has joined Barcelona, but we want to see him playing for the first team. They should stop making videos at this stage and remain focused because that is the most important thing,” he emphasized.
Oduro and Dreams FC winger Aziz Issah both made the leap to Barcelona directly from the Ghana Premier League, showcasing their potential on an international stage.
