President of the Sudanese Football Association, Dr. Moatasem Jaafar, has addressed concerns over the delay in paying the salary of Sudan head coach James Kwesi Appiah, attributing it to banking transfer complications.
Appiah has yet to join the Sudanese national team’s training camp in Saudi Arabia as they prepare for crucial upcoming fixtures against Senegal and South Sudan. Reports had earlier suggested that the Ghanaian coach was boycotting the camp due to unpaid entitlements, raising speculation about his future.
However, in an interview, Dr. Jaafar dismissed those claims and reaffirmed Appiah’s commitment to the Sudan job.
“This talk is not true. Kwasi is committed to his contract with the Sudanese Federation and will report at the agreed times. The delay in his salary payment is due to banking transfer complications to Ghana, but we are working to resolve the issue within the next few hours.”
He further emphasized that the Sudanese FA is keen on ensuring stability within the technical staff, especially after Appiah’s success in guiding the team to the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and leading their World Cup qualifying group.
“This will not prevent him from overseeing the Falcons of Jediane. The Federation is fully committed to the technical team’s stability and ensuring they receive their dues, especially after the great achievements made—qualifying Sudan for AFCON and leading their World Cup qualification group.”
Dr. Jaafar also acknowledged Appiah’s dedication to the team and assured that every effort was being made to resolve the situation.
“We greatly need Kwasi’s presence with us to lead the national team. We recognize the sacrifices he has made for the team, and we will do everything we can to solve these issues and meet his demands.”
Sudan currently tops Group B of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with 10 points after an impressive start to their campaign.
Meanwhile, Kwesi Appiah is expected to join the squad in Saudi Arabia in the coming days.
