Former AC Milan and Inter midfielder Sulley Muntari is hoping to make a return to the Black Stars and help the team ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Muntari, who spent the 2021/22 season in Ghana, helping Hearts of Oak win the MTN FA Cup, has not played for the Black Stars since 2014.

According to the Ghana Football Association, Muntari was sacked from camp during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil for an unprovoked physical attack on then-Black Stars management Moses Armah, and was given an indefinite ban.

Muntari was sacked from camp during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil for an unprovoked physical attack on then-Black Stars management Moses Armah, according to the GFA, and was given an indefinite ban.

The 37-year-old apologised in 2016 but has yet to be invited back. He hasn’t given up, though.

“Ghana, even if I’m on crutches today and they call me to come help, I’ll definitely run and go. Even if I can’t play, I’ll sit and contribute,” Muntari stated on GTV.

Muntari was one of Ghana’s best players during his prime, helping the Black Stars qualify for three consecutive World Cups between 2006 and 2014.

The former Sunderland player has 20 goals and 84 caps for the senior national team.
