Ghanaian defender Nathaniel Adjei has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League side Sunderland, with the English club monitoring his situation at FC Lorient.
The 24-year-old centre-back joined Lorient permanently from Swedish club Hammarby on 1 July 2024 in a deal worth a reported €5.7 million after initially arriving on loan earlier that year.
Adjei played a key role in Lorient’s successful 2024/25 Ligue 2 title-winning campaign, helping the club secure promotion back to France’s top flight.
The Teshie-born defender has started the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season strongly, playing the full 90 minutes in Lorient’s opening league fixture.
A right-sided centre-back, Adjei remains under contract with Lorient until June 2028, meaning Sunderland would need to negotiate a transfer fee if they decide to make a formal approach.
With his physical presence, defensive ability and growing experience in European football, Adjei has attracted attention as he continues to establish himself at club level and remain part of Ghana’s national team setup.
