Sunday, February 20, will see the return of the biggest club football clash in Ghana’s football when Hearts of Oak welcome Asante Kotoko to the Accra Sports Stadium.
The game is a matchday seven outstanding fixture from the first half of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.
The Phobians are seeking to end the first half of the season on a high after what has been an inconsistent play in their earlier 16 matches in the league while Kotoko will be hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table.
After a strong start to the campaign, Kotoko look most likely to lift this season’s league title but there is still a long way to go and Sunday’s fixture is only the beginning of another 17 games to come for Prosper Ogum Narteh’s side.
With just six league wins from 16, Hearts have barely struggled to rediscover their best form and look second-favourite against the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the fixture.
The pair of Franck Mbella Etouga and Georges Mfegue will be a threat to keep an eye on, with the former scoring 11 goals in the league in 10 starts this season while Mfegue returns from his suspension to face Samuel Boadu’s side.
On the path of Hearts, Kofi Kordzi’s seven goals in 14 games make him the Phobians top-scorer this campaign and his physical presence will be the strength has will be looking to utilise gainst Kotoko’s defence.
In the last five games involving these two in the Premier League, Hearts have recorded two wins with Kotoko only winning once during that time (2 draws).
However, Kotoko have won only one of their last three visits to Accra to the Rainbow club and that is a run Hearts will be hoping to maintain on Sunday.
With 12 points above their rivals, the Porcupine Warriors can go 15 clear of Hearts if they win on Sunday and all odds are in their favour at the moment.
The game is expected to see a full capacity of fans at the Stadium with the match scheduled to kick off at 3 pm.
