Michael Baidoo has received his first-ever call-up to the Black Stars as Ghana prepares for the crucial third and fourth rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been in outstanding form for Swedish club IF Elfsborg, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists this season. His impressive performances have made him a key figure for his team, including netting the decisive goal in IF Elfsborg’s recent 1-0 victory over AS Roma in the Europa League.
Baidoo’s inclusion in the national team squad comes after injuries to key players like Thomas Partey, Joseph Paintsil, Ibrahim Osman, and Kingsley Schindler. Partey, who was originally selected as captain, also withdrew due to injury, creating an opportunity for Baidoo to step in.
With Baidoo’s addition, head coach Otto Addo and his technical team will aim to secure six points from the doubleheader against Sudan, bolstering Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON.
The matches are scheduled for October 10 and October 15, with the Black Stars eager to strengthen their position in the group.
