Switzerland’s flight side St. Gallen has confirmed the acquisition of Ghanaian defender Stephan Ambrosius.

Ambrosius, who plays for the Black Stars, joins St. Gallen on a three-year contract that binds him to the club until 2027. The move to St. Gallen comes after Ambrosius became a free agent following the expiration of his contract with German club Hamburger SV.

Having joined Hamburger in 2012, Ambrosius progressed through the ranks, eventually earning a spot in the senior team. Last season, he featured in 18 matches for the club in Bundesliga 2, returning from a loan spell at Karlsruher SC that concluded at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Ambrosius has represented the Black Stars twice, both appearances occurring in friendly matches last year.

At St. Gallen, he will wear jersey number 5 and will be teammates with fellow Ghanaian internationals Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Musah Nuhu in the club’s locker room.
