Tanzania head coach Bakari Shime says his team is fully focused on securing all three points when they face Ghana in a decisive Group C encounter at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

With both sides sitting on a single point after two matches, Monday’s showdown at the Stade Municipal de Berkane is a must-win for either team if they hope to progress to the quarter-finals.

“Tomorrow, we’ll play our final group game — potentially our last in the tournament,” Shime said at the pre-match press conference. “This game is very, very important, especially for us. We need the three points to stand a chance of reaching the next round.”

Tanzania’s spirited 1-1 draw with defending champions South Africa in their previous match has boosted confidence in the East African camp, with Shime optimistic about their chances against the Black Queens.

“We’ve studied Ghana’s previous matches, and we know what to expect,” he noted. “Our goal is clear — take the three points and move forward. That’s what we’ve prepared for.”

Ghana, who also drew with Mali after an opening loss to South Africa, are under similar pressure. The Black Queens must win and hope South Africa defeat Mali in the other Group C fixture to improve their chances of qualifying, either as group runners-up or as one of the best third-placed teams.

The high-stakes clash kicks off at 19:00 GMT on Monday, July 14, 2025, with both teams fighting to keep their WAFCON hopes alive.
