The Tanzanian Football Association has officially sacked Algerian tactician Adel Amrouche on the 7th day of the 2023 AFCON.
Morocco defeated Taifa Stars of Tanzania 3-0 on Wednesday and there was tension before the game as Adel Amrouche made a contentious comment about Morocco that shocked many people on the continent.
Adel Amrouche, 55, commented that Moroccans control African football and hence will force CAF to select a referee that will favour the Atlas Lions against the Taifa Stars.
Politically, there’s a perennial tension since the 1960s between Morocco and Algeria and many think his unfortunate comments can rekindle it and cause chaos between the two nations.
The Tanzanian Football Association has cited inappropriate words towards Morocco which is unacceptable by the FA and Tanzania as a nation as the main reason why they have fired Amrouche. .
CAF also has suspended Adel Amrouche for 8 matches.
The Atlas Lions of Morocco will play against the Leopards of DR Congo on Sunday while managerless Tanzania will play against the Chipolopolo of Zambia on the same day.
