Fans of the Senegalese national team were disturbed to see their jerseys for the 2026 FIFA World Cup not feature two stars, despite winning their second AFCON title in January 2026.

The West Africans have been ordered by CAF to hand over the AFCON 2025 title they won in Morocco to the Atlas Lions following a 17-minute walk-off protest after  Congolese referee Jean Jacques Ndala had awarded a penalty, which was later missed by Brahim Diaz, to Morocco.

CAF on Tuesday, 17th March 2026, ruled in favour of Morocco as they have them champions, with the football world well divided over the decision. Morocco, on paper, is now the champion of Africa.

The Senegalese F.A has decided to appeal for justice to be served because they won the competition fairly.

When Senegal released their kits for the 2026 World Cup, many believed that they did not feature the second star because of the CAF’s ruling, but the Senegalese FA has explained to fans the reason why they did that.

The statement reads;

“The Senegalese Football Federation wishes to clarify the situation following the reactions to the release of the new national team jerseys, which feature a single star,” a statement from the FSF read.

“The FSF informs the public that production of these jerseys began in August 2025 by our kit supplier, Puma, before the last Africa Cup of Nations. Following our victory, manufacturing deadlines and industrial constraints prevented us from interrupting this ongoing process.

“Aware of the Senegalese people’s legitimate attachment to their national symbols, the FSF wishes to reassure all supporters: the new jerseys incorporating the second star are currently in production. They are scheduled to be available starting next September.

“The FSF apologises for any misunderstanding this situation may have caused and thanks the supporters for their continued support, vigilance, and unwavering loyalty to the national team.”

Senegal will have only one star on their jerseys because Puma will release the one that features two stars in September

The Lions of Teranga will face France and Norway in the 2026 World Cup, with the third opponent yet to be decided.

They have lined up three international friendlies before they start their World Cup campaign against France. Pape Thiaw’s side will play Peru and Gambia in March’s international friendlies, then finish their preparations with matches against the USA in June.
