The Gambia Football Federation has formally announced the appointment of the new head coach for the national team.
Belgian tactician Tom Saintfiet parted ways with the Scorpions after the 2023 AFCON after successfully qualifying the minnows to back-to-back AFCONs and helping them to play an eye-catching football.
It has taken the GFF four good months before announcing a new coach for the Scorpions.
Young Northern Irish manager Jonathan McKinstry has been announced as the new head coach to lead the Gambia.
On X, the GFF announced his appointment.
“The GFF wishes to congratulate and welcome our new gaffer Jonathan McKinstry on his appointment as Scorpions Coach. Jonny, a former Sierra Leone, Uganda and Rwanda coach is the current manager of Gor Mahia FC in Kenya and will take over from 1st June 2024,” wrote The Gambia Football Federation.
Jonathan McKinstry has enough experience in African football after having managed many national teams on the continent including Rwanda, Uganda and Sierra Leone.
He is charged to at least qualify the Scorpions to Morocco 2025.
