Ghana national team coach Otto Addo has clarified that he makes all the decisions regarding the Black Stars team, with no interference from political or football administrators.
In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Addo stated that while he discusses decisions with his technical staff, he has the final word on player selection.
“Yes, it’s my own decision,” Addo said. “Whatever I do here in the national team, sometimes we discuss things with our technical staff, but on the decision we make for players and on the field, at the end, I have the last words. If it wouldn’t be like that, I’ll never come here.”
Addo praised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for not interfering in his decision-making process, stating that they have given him the autonomy to make his own decisions.
“I’ll thank the GFA, they’ve never interfered in my selection. They left me alone in my decision, and I think that’s the best way it can work. Because if there are too many interferences in this and that, it’s not what only happens in Ghana, it’s normal sometimes like in Europe.”
Addo’s first stint as Ghana coach saw him qualify the team for the World Cup in Qatar, and he has recently signed a 34-month contract for his second stint with an option for a further 24 months.
